Cowboy Birthday Party
I started thinking this last week about children's birthday parties. My youngest went to one last weekend. They had the greatest time, crafting, eating and playing football. The cake was a football field - which the boys thought was the best thing.
After last years party, I said to myself "No more parties". We had about 20 kids and it was a stinking hot day and it was windy (and you know what they say about hot windy days and children).
I love organising parties - any kind. I like to have a bit of theme happening. So, when my youngest was turning 5 - I thought we would have a 'retro cowboy party'. Well, it was so much fun buying and making all the things for the party (and I don't mean the food). The invitations were made by copying Michael Millers fabric Yeeha!!, they turned out perfect thanks to a marvellously talented friend of mine who is a whizz on the Mac. I made a cute little cowboy outfit for my birthday boy. I made a bandanna for all the children and gave them all a cowboy hat on arrival.
Anyway, to cut a long story short it was a successful day - and all the 20 plus children went home very happy. I was a very tired mama. I look back now and know that it was worth it.
So, when I asked my nearly 6 year old what he wanted to do for his 6th birthday - he said ' have it home coz they are better than the ones in play centres' and ' could I please have a Disney Cars theme?'.
Well, that was a challenge I wasn't about to let go. So, even though it wasn't what I would have chosen at least it still had a bit of a retro feel about it. The 20 kids had a great time. I thought it would be a great idea to make box cars and decorate them (that was for the benefit of the girls that were present) - I don't think the boys needed to decorate theirs, they just wanted races.
So I will let the photos speak for themselves. If anybody needs anything for a Racing Car Party or a Retro Cowboy party - please speak up. I have all the stuff and info you will need.
I wonder what we will do this year ..................

Oh it was a wonderful day. My girls still have their hats. Why can't us crafty mamas JUST have a party?
