My Baby Has Flown The Nest

We took our Seanie (14) to the airport today and handed him over to people I had never met before.

It was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. He is flying, as I type this post, all the way over the U.S.A. to visit family and friends. A big adventure a long way away from his mummy and daddy here in Australia.

I kept the tears in check until after he had walked through the 'wailing wall'. I think even his younger brothers are going to miss him too judging by the above photo. I do know that he will come back a little bit more independent and that bit more grown up.

Bye Bye My Baby .... I will miss you ..........................

PS. A trip to the airport always means a visit to Krispy Kreme!!!

As a mother of a nearly 14 year old son, I can imagine how difficult it was for you. It is wonderful to see them grow up but a bit daunting at the same time. I hope Sean has a wonderful trip - I am sure that the experience will be terrific for him. At least you can console yourself that he will be in good hands with your extended family in the US!

So sad. I can commiserate. I let my 17 year old daughter spend this whole year in France. It is killing me!

Oh, oh, oh. Cathy! You are so brave! I couldn't imagine doing this. But how wonderful for Sean. Good luck to you all. Such beautiful photos too.

What a lovely post! A great adventure for your boy if a little sad for you. Hope the Krispy Kremes were some consolation!

I'm tearing up here! The thought of my babies going away without me! The thought of yours going away without you!
Of course it won't happen in my house as the boys aren't allowed to leave home, let alone the country, until they are 35.

He'll be great! And what conversations you'll have when he gets home! Mine headed to Italy last summer and I was a blubbering idiot!

14 already? Flying the coup to play overseas...already? My gut feels all anxious for you. What a brave mum you are. Love the family pics...you do look lovely and too young to have a 14 year old. I am going to treasure every minute with my 17 month old...she'll be 14before I know it!

Brave old you. I know that wall well but usually from the other side.

Is he going on an exchange programme? 14years old. You are both extremely brave.

Oh, I'd be a blubbering mess... and I didn't see a smudge of mascara on your face!! Very brave of you to hold it all in until he couldn't see.

I guess it is all part of growing up -for boys and Mummies! The next phase, the one when they leave the nest, I am told is the hardest!
He must be a great boy to have the inner gumption to go! well done to you.

Oh gosh, poor you. Well done for being so brave, Cathy. I really feel for you - as a parent I think giving them the independence that they need to grow is one of the hardest things...

Thinking of you and hoping that the Kristpy Kremes were suitably delicious. x
