Apron Swap

I am part of One Hour Craft's Apron Swap. I seriously didn't know what I was getting myself into when I decided to join, but I thought what the heck, and joined anyway. My swap partner is the lovely Louise and I received such a welcoming email from her telling me about herself, that my doubts were soon gone . I actually think that we have a lot in common. I have three boys - she has three girls!!!! She lives in Melbourne too and makes gorgeous things - check out her blog Lululollylegs. She is a very clever knitter and sewer and by the sounds of things - chef too.

I didn't have to worry too much after that. We emailed a few times and I got to know Louise thru her blog. Now the hard part - what sort of apron will I make for Louise? My first thoughts were 'retro' 'domestic goddess' type of apron, so I started planning and designing this in my head. Then thru an email that I received from Louise, I found out that she loved '
Anna Maria Horners' 'Chocolate Lollipop' range of fabric. Quickly I dropped the 'retro' apron idea, and that morning created this (photo courtesy of Louise - doesn't she look gorgeous in it). I had so much fun making and designing this apron. I didn't realise that I could actually 'interpret' a fabric and come up with a designbased on that interpretation. I appliqued little chocolates on the bottom, and coming out of the pocket, I appliqued a 'big lollipop'.

I suffer from severe depression (which started out as postnatal but that is another story), so when I received the email from Louise telling me that she had received the apron and how much she loved it, my confidence was boosted unbelievably. Thanks Louise for your kind comments. They mean so much to me.

It has been a lovely experience and I will of course be joining in more swaps in the future. And as for Louise, I have made a lovely friend who just lives across town from me. Maybe we could arrange a bloggers meet too.

Oh Cathy, you are so lovely!! Tonight the apron got a proper work out in the kitchen and was much admired by my dinner guests. It's just gorgeous and very clever. I will take some better photos in the daylight as I want to show off the details like the different coloured stitching and a better view of the lollipop. Thanks again and I definitely think we need to go for that coffee.
